Transform Your Limited Indoor Space

Limited space is no longer an excuse not have a garden, here is the secret.

The concept of indoor garden is quite simple because the function of space inside a house normally has already been identified. So the mini garden you want to create just have to support the designated function with more fresh and vibrant environment.

Figure 1 shows a layout plan of a double storey terrace house as a sample. There are three corners namely Corner A, Corner B and Corner C to be redesigned.

Corner A is a suitable area because of the location near the folding wooden doors. It is an advantage in term of lighting and wider selection of plantings. It's also suggested at this corner to build a fish pond together with fountain. Plants like      planted in a planters box. Potted container plants are the best selection because of easy control and maintenance.

Corner B is a side wall connected with a dividing wall to the stairs. The position of the dividing wall opposite the main door entrance makes it an ideal choice as a featured wall. Besides the building, color and texture that makes the wall more eye-catching, the selection of suitable plants with good mixture of color can be used. Don't be afraid to use some big and tall potted plants because the wall needed that kind of effects. A mini garden with some hardscape is also can be designed at the sides of the corner.

Meanwhile Corner C is a corner underneath the stairs being converted into a storage room. Normally this corner is just being ignored but a wooden deck installed will make it more functional. This space can be developed as a working area decorated with a mini garden. With less sunlight available, plants which require less water and sunlight are suitable. Again usage of hardscape such as rocks and textured wall are vital to emphasize the design of it.
